Social Media in Your Academic and Professional Life

January 25, 2012

In January 2012 Ines Mergel, scientific advisor to this project and faculty in Maxwell School of Citizenship, shared her expertise on how to make the most of  social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook,, Twitter, etc. for academic and professional work.  Women STEM faculty and guests learned about the different social media options and about how expanding your social network can lead to more innovative information.  Research shows that our personal networks tend to be homogenous.  Social networking allows individuals to build a web of active, “loose” ties with colleagues across the country and the globe increasing exposure and access to new and creative thinking.
